Sitting here drinking a beer, and I have just set-up my blog account. Now I'm wondering what the hell I'm gonna write! I'm not usually at a lose for words, but I feel like I've been put on the spot without any warning. The kids are visiting their cousin, so I have quite time. My husband and I are chicken farmers. Yeah, we grow chickens for a living. For some of you that don't know about chicken farming, it's simple. The chicken you buy at the grocery store, starts out at farms with thousands of baby chicks. After about 5 1/2 weeks, they magically show up all packaged at the grocery store. I'm not involved with the part in between, so I'll not get into that.
We love living in the country, it's quite and layed back. We have both worked in public jobs, so being our "own boss" is one of the best parts. Of course, we have to work hard to pay our bills just like everyone else. We just have a little more flexibility about the hours we have to put in. It's the "punching the clock" that we hate.
Enough about that. I grew up singing with my dad and my brother. We like all music, but what we grew up on is Bluegrass/country!! We got our own band when we were teenagers. Played in honky-tonks before we were old enough to drink. I was always shy about it, and knew I never could really do it for a living, because of the low self-esteem thing. That was a long time ago, now I'm 40, but I do enjoy getting together with a few friends and family and having a few beers, cooking out, and picking and singing. After one of our little shindigs, my husbands neice asked if I would sing at church for decoration. I said, you know, I may have to have a couple of beers before I can do that. Just kidding. I do get very nervous in front of people, especially a church congregation!!! But, I wanted to do it for my husband's family. So, I said I would do it, but I wanted to be first singer, to get it over with in a hurry. We got to church 1 hour early that morning, and to my surprise, it was coming a thundersorm!! I'm already nervous, and now it's lightning and pouring rain. I'm not a regular church goer, so you can imagine what's going through my head. The time came for me to sing, and all I could think of was..... Here I am in front of God and everybody, (standing room only) and I'm gonna get struck down by lightning for all to see!! My voice was shaking, and I could not wait for that song to end!! When it finally did, I said, Oh Lord in a whisper, but I think I was close enough to microphone that everybody heard it. After the whole thing was over we left as soon as we could get out the door!! It was still coming a storm! Now, since then I've been asked to sing at a wedding. I said, "hell no"! But they said, it's gonna be outside and if you need to have a couple of drinks, you can. Maybe they'll break-up before I have to show my ass again!
